I’m very unfit. I’m not exaggerating or feeling sorry for myself. It’s a fact. Since the arrival of my precious little girl, my exercise regime has comprised lifting lattes, softplay slides, chase & be chased (mainly pretending to be a dragon) and that strange ‘get up, sit down a zillion times’ thing that happens without moving from the same room/park/playground.
So, if I’m going to get out in the great outdoors, I have to get fit – but with no money, a bit of tired pre-pregnancy gear and not a lot of motivation. (Because, you know, I’m sort of OK and I quite like soft play….)
Also – how do I do it? How do I regularly get out and get the miles done in the time I have available? I have time but I also have a gorgeous little person so doesn’t share my desire to walk for 8 hours a day. A gorgeous little person who needs my attention and brainspace. Do you know? I don’t. But I thought ‘if I write a blog I might miracously work something out by simply getting it out there and putting words to paper‘; as Marilyn Monroe said ‘think in ink’. I also thought you might have some brilliant ideas out there we could share. Please, anything.
So my first thing was to set a challenge and a date. A goal. A noble aspiration – a calling – a tangible point in the future on which I could set my course, focus and efforts on. But something realistic – not Davina McCall (much respect), anything with ‘extreme’ or ‘iron man/woman’ in the title. And pretty much within driving distance for a day. (Like I said no money and child-care responsibilities.) And so, having no ideas (lack of sleep…you see a pattern here…) I asked my good friends – and, of course, when you ask the Universe (or your friends), the Universe responds – ‘The 3-Peaks’!
Not the National one (Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis) but the lovely Yorkshire one – Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. 3 peaks, 24.5 miles, over 1,585 metres of climbing. Yesssss!!!
OK – so how am I going to do this?
But I am going to do this – and it would be amazing if you joined me on the journey.
