C’mon, the Lakes District is one of the best places on Earth. OK, so I’m slightly biased, it’s the place where I enjoyed some of my first independent! outdoor experiences – amazing peaks and a few troughs (literally…).
So, I’m going to recommend this very family-friendly festival to you all. It takes place in Keswick, a town worth a visit on its own merits alone.
At the Festival, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. The sporting activities for the committed athlete. The wonderful Theatre by the Lake plays host to top-class speakers, this year this includes Chrissie Wellington OBE, the first British athlete to hold the Ironman World Champion title and current Head of Participation for ParkRun UK – talk about girl power!
In the lakeside location, with beautiful views of Derwent Water, the festival village has stalls, refreshments and activities. For night owls, or those with babysitters, there are two nights of music including Melanie C, The Farm, Peter Hook and a range of other support acts.
So what’s special about it. Well, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Derwent Water and its surrounding mountains. The Festival has a wonderful laid-back, fun atmosphere. You can dip in for a few hours or spend the whole weekend enjoying all the Festival has to offer.

Toddler Tips!
This is a real family friendly festival – you have nearby facilities in Keswick, as well as all the different toilets and cafés available lakeside (in the Theatre and on-site in temporary facilities). The festival village is spread over parkland, so there is plenty of room to run about for little legs. Lots of the stalls have activities and The National Trust are usually there with a climbing trees activity. Take a picnic, suncream/waterproofs (depending on forecast) and enjoy a day with both little and big fellow outdoor enthusiasts!
